Ok I am clueless when it comes to doing an AC recharge on the 2000 3 series.
I went and purchased a container of R124 and found the high side of the AC system.  The fitting is too small on any of the cans of freon from the local auto parts store.  So I guess the question is:  Is the high side connector proprietary on BMWs?  Do I need a special hose?

You know, thats funny. I have a half can of freon left and right after I bought the seven, I thought I would give it a booster shot. Mine didnt fit either and I didnt try any alternatives. The truth is, the AC works fine, I just wanted to see what the level was using the gauge. Did you post this on BF.c yet?

Figured it out.  I had to buy a gauge for the job so if anyone needs their ac recharged let me know.

1.  If you don't know anything about A/C don't go trying to recharge the system.  Adding refrigerant to the HIGH side of the system can get you kill.  The high side pressure can vary from 200 psi to 300 psi, enough pressure to blow up a can of refrigerant.  Refrigerant is always added to the LOW side. 

2.  To add refrigerant you need a set of gauges connected to the low side and high side of the system.

What he said. And DIY recharges are a killer to your A/C system... Just because it's not super cool then it could be a few different things. Not just low charge, and adding charge could just cover it up.

I've got cert's on A/C work, ASE, EPA 609 (required to work on automotive A/C systems), and a Ford credential for A/C service.
