Ok,

Most of you know I bought a 93 ferd crown vic for #1 son last month. I got it from my nephew who is a car mechanic and somewhat took care of it given the age.

Now when we bought it, he told us it had a minor exhaust leak, no big deal, run it with windows cracked and we'll fix that later. Since we have had it though, I have determined that what I smell is not an exhaust leak, but a gas leak. The inside smells strong of gas, not exhaust. Also, once the car is off, both inside AND outside the car still reeks of gas. My kid is arguing with me and telling me its exhaust but I have been around all sorts of cars in all sorts of conditions and I am convinced it is a gas leak. Given that of course I dont smoke anywhere near that thing.

The question is, can exhaust smell like gas? Also, if its an exhaust leak, can you still smell it - outside - several hours after the car is shut off? Lastly, there are NO fluids dripping on the ground anywhere as in gas leaking out.

Thoughts?

If it smells like gas is probably is gas... But you could have a problem with an injector. Your best bet is take it to the frd dealer... BTW nice pick up. I love the Crown Vics!!!

exhaust almost never smells like gas. if its a small or high enough leak it would evaporate before hitting the ground too. Ask your kid to show you his ASE cert next time he insists its exhaust and can't even drive stick  Grin
